Jamina Roberts’ partner Emil Berggren returns to the court

Behind every handball superstar is a support system, but in the case of Swedish icon Jamina Roberts, her partner is stepping back into the spotlight himself. Emil Berggren has officially joined Ikast FS as a player-assistant coach, ensuring the family’s move to Denmark is a win both on and off the court.

When Jamina Roberts moved to Ikast Håndbold following the financial crisis at Vipers Kristiansand, the handball world watched closely. Now, the move is complete as her partner, the experienced Swedish playmaker Emil Berggren, has found his place in the local handball scene.

By joining Ikast FS, the men’s 3rd Division side, Berggren provides the final piece of the “family puzzle” for the couple and their daughter.

Has played in big European clubs

While many international fans recognize him as the partner of a global star, Berggren’s own career is one of high-level European experience. A physical and intelligent playmaker, he first made his mark at the Swedish powerhouse IK Sävehof before taking his talents to the German Bundesliga with Bergischer HC. His journey also included a successful stint in the Danish top flight with Aalborg Håndbold, giving him a deep understanding of the Scandinavian handball culture.

In recent years, Berggren has transitioned into the strategic side of the sport, serving as a prominent TV expert and the Sporting Director for IK Sävehof—one of Europe’s most successful talent factories. Now, he brings that wealth of knowledge from the boardroom and the elite courts back to the grassroots level in Denmark.

A new project in Ikast

While Roberts chases titles in the Women’s Champions League, Berggren will bring his elite mentality to a new project. Ikast FS has announced a major push to professionalize their men’s setup, increasing training to three sessions a week with the clear goal of promotion to the 2nd Division.

– Emil brings a massive amount of experience, quality, and tactical understanding. His routine will be an invaluable resource both on and off the court, the club stated in their announcement on Facebook.
