Gudmundur Gudmundsson no longer Fredericia coach

Fredericia HK starts the week with a dealing with the consequences of a major decision. Gudmundur Gudmundsson leaves the club after more than three years in charge of the Danish side, according to a club announcement.

Fredericia has been slightly underwhelming with one win in the first four league games. There should be longer perspectives considering the role of head coach, which also is expressed in the announcement from FHK.

– We are not satisfied with the quality of our performance and the flow in our play. We lacked that extra spark and enjoyment of the game, says director Thomas Renneberg-Larsen to the club webpage.

Under Gudmundsson Fredericia played several seasons in Europe, including the Champions League adventure last season and reached final four in the Danish cup. FHK has also moved forward as an established team very near the domestic top.

– Over the past few seasons, we have changed the composition of our squad, bringing in younger, talented players who have the potential to become top players in their positions. With these changes to the squad, the starting point is different from when Gudmundur joined FHK in 2022. Therefore, we have determined that we need a different type of coach moving forward, Renneberg-Larsen continues.

Fredericia appoints the previous assistant coach, Jesper Houmark and Michael Wollesen to take over after Gudmundsson.
