The rumours have been circulating for some time, and now it is official. Elias Ellefsen á Skipagøtu will leave THW Kiel to join Danish champions Aalborg Håndbold. The centre back will arrive in the summer of 2027 and has signed a four-year contract with the club.
Aalborg lost one of their biggest stars earlier this week when Juri Knorr was officially confirmed to join French giants PSG after the current season. However, it did not take long for the Danish champions to find their replacement.
Elias Ellefsen á Skipagøtu has established himself as one of the most exciting playmakers in European handball during his time at Kiel. The Faroese international has also played a key role in leading the Faroe Islands to historic results at several major tournaments.
– With Elias in the squad, we get a world-class player. His technique, game understanding and ability in one-on-one situations are among his many strengths. In addition, despite his young age, he has repeatedly shown that he is not afraid to take responsibility in decisive moments, says Martin Larsen on Aalborg’s website.
Skipagøtu has signed a four-year contract with Aalborg, keeping him at the club until 2031. The Faroese centre back is also convinced that Aalborg is the right next step in his career.
– Aalborg is without a doubt the biggest and best-run club in the Nordic region, so it was naturally very attractive for me to become part of it. That is why it was my top priority when the opportunity to make the move arose.
