Barthold leaves Aalborg – Alexander Blonz replaces him

Sebastian Barthold is leaving Aalborg after eight years at the club. Now, his replacement on the left wing is confirmed – Alexander Blonz from rivals GOG.
– Aalborg is a step up in my career, says the 24-year-old.

Barthold has scored 1,232 goals in 335 matches for Aalborg. In total, he has spent eight years at the Danish club, but this summer, the Norwegian will be leaving.

Replacing the club legend is 24-year-old Alexander Blonz. The left winger is currently injured and has missed large parts of the season for GOG. During the 2023/24 season, Blonz scored 112 goals in 32 matches for the club in the Herreligaen.

– Alexander is a player we have followed even before he joined GOG, but during the fall, we had the opportunity to reach an agreement with him for the upcoming season, which we are extremely pleased with, says Aalborg Håndbold’s director Jan Larsen in a press release.

Blonz began his professional career at Viking HK and then moved on to Elverum Håndball in his home country, Norway, before joining the Hungarian powerhouse OTP Bank-Pick Szeged in 2021. In 2023, he moved to GOG and Denmark.

– For me, the club is one of the best teams in the world and always fights to win every title, and I really want to be a part of that. That’s why I hope that during my time at the club, we can win even more titles and hopefully reach the Final4 in the Champions League, says Blonz
