A handball party happened in Herring during the weekend. Aalborg HB reached the premium position in Final four and won the Danish cup title for the first time in three years.
Aalborg made it through a surprisingly tough semifinal and a controlled final effort to lift the trophy.
Against Sønderjyske, Simon Hald and Kristian Bjørnsen scored vital goals in the deciding phase while Fabian Norsten saved his best saves for the final minutes and Niklas Landin was allowed a quick entry stopping a penalty.
The final adversary, Bjerringbro/Silkeborg crushed Grindsted in the semifinal but couldn’t stop Aalborg from gaining a five goal advantage in the final act. Thomas Arnoldsen proved effective when Aalborg entertained the lead, while the defense and a solid Landin made it difficult for BSH in the other direction.
Arnoldsen was crowned as ”pokalfighter” and Aalborg kept true to the tradition with 34-29. The cup titles (three so far) land at northern Jutland once every three seasons.
