Argentina and Germany on top in World Games

The men’s team of Germany doubled up with international title, winning World Games only weeks after the European Championship gold. Germany women also had a final opportunity in the tournament, but lost to Argentina in shoot out.

World Games provided six competition days in Chengdu in the Sichuan province of China. Germany men was one of the favourites but the final was hard to call as Portugal also fought to win one of the first two tight sets.

In the shoot out Germany had a solid star in the goalkeeper Moritz Ebert who saved the last attempt before celebrations started for the gold.

Argentina and Germany met in the World Championship final and the rerun proved an exciting duel. Argentina came back from 14–20 in the first set to ran away with 22–12. Clear domination in the shoot out meant that the South American team could lift the trophy with some margin, 7–2.

Spain clinched bronze in the women’s competition and Brazil won the men’s third place game.
