The Bahrain Handball Association has appointed Swedish coach Robert Hedin as head coach of the men’s national team, following Aron Kristjánsson’s departure after the 2025 IHF Men’s World Championship.
Hedin brings decades of international experience as both a player and coach. From 2018 to 2025, he led the USA men’s national team, guiding them to their first-ever World Championship win and a bronze medal at the 2025 IHF Emerging Nations Championship. His exit from the U.S. program was marked by strong criticism of the national federation.
He now takes charge of a Bahrain team with a strong track record in Asia. Bahrain has won six medals in the last eight AHF Men’s Championships, reached the quarter-finals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and secured their best World Championship result by finishing 16th at Poland/Sweden 2023.
