Reinier Taboada an option for Netherlands

The possibility to include a new left winger in the lineup can be a game changer for Netherlands. The federation website reports that Reinier Taboada, previously in Cuba has completed the process and is eligible for the orange national team.

Since the spring of 2024, Taboada has held a Dutch passport. However, the wish to participate in new colours in the World Cup last winter was denied by IHF. Now the formal barriers has been removed for the 27-year-old who currently resides in Lisbon (SL Benfica).

– I was very happy when I heard the news. After such a long wait, I can finally play for the Dutch national team. The process started a long time ago, and we thought it wouldn’t be possible anymore, but now that it’s a reality, I’m really looking forward to playing for the Netherlands, he says to handbal.nl.

Taboada represents further options for the coach Staffan Olsson.

– Taboada brings international experience and a strong shot. We are pleased that he is joining our team and look forward to seeing him in action with TeamNL Men’s Handball, Olsson says to handbal.nl.
