Füchse Berlin won the German clash in a penalty drama. The capital team gained momentum with a comeback within full time and defeated THW Kiel with a deciding save by Lasse Ludwig.
There was more than enough entertainment in 60 minutes and 10 000 plus spectators in Münich were treated with a penalty shootout.
Before that, Mathias Gidsel provided his usual show and Kiel responded with Elias Ellefsen a Skipagötu in prime form. At half-time Berlin definitely had the upper hand, 19–14 but Kiel overturned the lead in the hunt for yet another Super Cup victory.
Eric Johansson was ready to perform after a short term injury and his fifth goal meant 27-24 with zebra team ahead.
Soon after Ludwig entered the pitch for Berlin and the last part of the match while counting minutes got Füchse back in the game.
After four out of five penalties the score was still even, but Tobias Gröndahl´s 34–33 put pressure on Ellefsen a Skipagötu and Ludwig could calculate the shot from Kiel’s top scorer.
Super Cup was arranged for the 32nd time, Berlin repeated last year’s final win and became the third team to win on penalties.
