Spain remained on top in European Open

Spain had a winning run through the U19 competition in Gothenburg. The final was an exciting exception to the total domination, still Spain defeated Iceland 31–30 to lift the trophy.

The five group games didn’t construct any trouble for speed driven-team, keen on supreme attacks. Spain also ran over Sweden with a clear margin and secured at least silver.

Iceland competed in the same preliminary group as Spain and sought some comfort in the 17–19-result from earlier in the tournament.

While Spain had the lead and combined successfully to good opportunities, Iceland had the ability to bounce back.

In the last seconds, Iceland even had a chance to equalize and send the game to extra time but a slight mistake in the passing procedure meant Spain could cheer as the whistle blowed.

The teams that made it to the made final also made the most impact on the all star-team. Iceland´s Dagur Árni Heimisson was appointed mvp and Spain had superb central positions with the best playmaker, pivot and defender.

Croatia caught up with Sweden and also the passed the host nation on the home stretch to reach bronze.
