The final round of the Champions League Men group phase gets underway on Wednesday, with two main round spots still up for grabs in Group B. Several other teams will also be looking to finish the group stage on a high note.
Group B promises plenty of drama, with Orlen Wisla Plock, MT Melsungen and HBC Nantes all sitting on six points ahead of the final matches.
Plock host Nantes in a crucial encounter, while Melsungen travel to already eliminated HC Vardar. A victory for either Plock or Nantes will guarantee progression, while Melsungen can secure their place with a win or draw.
– There’s no need to do the maths: We have to win, or at the very least draw, to qualify. We knew this group would be tough and it’s proving to be difficult right to the very end. Our fate is in our own hands, but nothing will come easy in Plock, where they will also be fighting for their Champions League survival. It’s up to us to put in a big performance, said Nantes head coach Gregory Cojean.
Elsewhere, unbeaten Veszprém travel to FC Porto, looking to maintain their perfect record, while Paris Saint-Germain face Aalborg Håndbold in a battle for valuable points to carry into the main round.
SC Magdeburg also aim to complete the group phase unbeaten when they host HC Kriens-Luzern, while Industria Kielce take on Kolstad Håndball.
All eight matches will be played on Wednesday, with the final main round places in Group B to be decided.
