MT Melsungen have reached their first-ever international final after a convincing 37–30 victory over SG Flensburg-Handewitt in the EHF European League semi-final in Hamburg.
The first half was closely contested, with Melsungen going into the break holding a narrow 15–14 lead. However, after halftime Melsungen took full control of the match, combining a strong defensive performance with efficient attacking play.
In the second half, Melsungen quickly pulled away. They repeatedly found gaps in Flensburg’s defence through Dainis Kristopans’ powerful shooting. At 24–20 with just over 20 minutes remaining, the home side had established a firm grip on the game.
Goalkeeper Nebojša Simić became a decisive factor, finishing with 15 saves and also stopping two penalties from Emil Jakobsen. His performance helped Melsungen extend the lead to 29–22, from which point the semi-final was effectively decided.
The win means Melsungen will face THW Kiel in the final – the club’s first-ever appearance in an EHF final.
