It took nothing less than a dramatic double overtime for IK Sävehof to secure the Swedish championship in a thrilling final.
After an impressive away win in the previous match and with a packed home crowd behind them, the stage was set for Sävehof to clinch the title on Sunday. Andreas Wallin’s side also came out firing.
Ida Sembe struck twice from the right wing early on, helping Sävehof race to a 6–2 lead. The home side carried that momentum throughout the first half and went into the break with a commanding 16–10 advantage.
But just like in Game 2, Skara refused to go down without a fight. Three quick goals after halftime brought the visitors right back into contention, and suddenly the pressure shifted.
Melanie Felber continued her outstanding scoring form, and with just over ten minutes remaining, Skara had cut the deficit to three. A strong defensive spell followed, conceding only once, and with a minute left Evi Jaspers gave Skara their first lead of the match at 22–21.
At that point, Sävehof’s title celebrations looked set to be postponed. However, after a timeout, Stina Wiksfors stepped up to level the score and force overtime.
Skara carried their late momentum into the first extra period. With both Felber and Gyltman leading the charge, the visitors looked set to steal the title, holding both possession and the lead in the dying seconds.
But a costly turnover changed everything. Sävehof capitalized instantly, and Stella Huselius found the equalizer to send the game into a second overtime.
There, Skara finally ran out of energy. Sävehof took control with three unanswered goals while Örjan Överby’s side failed to respond.
In the end, Sävehof could celebrate their 18th Swedish championship title after one of the most dramatic finals in recent memory.
