For the third consecutive season, Metz Handball have secured their place at the EHF FINAL4, following a hard-fought 31–28 victory over FTC-Rail Cargo Hungaria in the second leg of the quarter-finals. After a 31–31 draw in the first leg, the French side advanced 62–59 on aggregate.
The match was tight early on, but Metz took control before halftime with a decisive 6–0 run, powered by key saves from Johanna Bundsen. The goalkeeper finished with 15 saves and a 37 percent save rate.
FTC responded strongly in the second half, led by Petra Simon’s 11 goals, but could not close the gap to fewer than two goals.
At the other end, Tyra Axnér led Metz offensively with eight goals, playing a crucial role in securing the win.
Metz now head to Budapest aiming to improve on their previous FINAL4 results, having never finished higher than third.
