Huge drama as Veszprém advance to the final

It was a semifinal to remember as the two giants of Hungarian handball, Veszprém and Pick Szeged, faced off. The game went all the way to penalties, where Veszprém managed to edge a 4–3 win in the shootout, securing a place in the final.

Just days after clashing in the league, it was once again time for the battle between Veszprém and Pick Szeged. With a place in the final on the line, both teams came out firing from the start.

Pick Szeged started best with two quick goals, but the home team quickly responded and got right back on the scoreboard. That set the tone for what was to come, with neither side gaining any major advantage in the first half.

Both teams struggled somewhat offensively, and with both goalkeepers making plenty of saves, the score remained low at 11–11 at halftime.

Just like in the first half, it was the away side that started best in the second. After going on a 4–0 run, Pick Szeged managed to create a gap, taking an 18–15 lead.

But Veszprém wasn’t going to let the game slip away that easily, and slowly but surely the deficit was cut down. With ten minutes left, the game was level again at 23–23.

Despite Pick Szeged regaining a two-goal lead in the final minutes, the game ended level after Veszprém equalized late, sending it to penalties.

In the shootout, it was Veszprém goalkeeper Michael Appelgren who stepped up. With a terrific save using his right foot, he secured the win for his team.
