Egypt and Tunisia advance to Afcon final

It wasn’t the most dramatic set of semifinals at the African Championship. Tunisia completely ran over Algeria 33–24, and favorites Egypt defeated Cape Verde 32–26.

Egypt are huge favorites to reclaim their title, and in the semifinal they put their foot on the gas from the start. Star player Yahia Omar was on fire early, delivering six goals in the first twenty minutes as Egypt surged to a 14–5 lead.

If Cape Verde had any hope of an upset, it was swept away after that. Credit must still be given, because despite the nightmare start they didn’t let the game run away. Instead, Cape Verde produced a strong second half, and after 60 minutes they had cut the deficit to just a six-goal loss.

The other semifinal was even more one-sided. Tunisia completely outplayed a very weak Algerian side from start to finish. The contest was effectively over early, and in the end it was a convincing 33–24 win for Tunisia.

Now the final awaits, where Egypt will obviously go in as favorites, and the feeling is that Tunisia will need something close to a miracle to have any chance in the game.
