Sunday was a deciding day in the Euro 2026 arenas. Denmark qualified in front of the home crowd, Hungary and Iceland have left to the decide the group F winner and Slovenia got in the game as the final main round team for the evening.
Italy–Hungary
For 45 minutes Italy could match the quick attacks from Hungary and opened up for an exciting finish. The surprise was not to be as László Bartucz dominated the final part between the posts and Bence Imre shone with nine goals in the 32–26-triumph. Hungary advanced to the Main round, also securing Iceland a spot.
Montenegro–Faroe Islands
The very special connection between Faroe Islands and the supporters made for a very entertaining game in Oslo. With three players reaching nine goals each – Hakun av Teigum, Elias Skipagotu and Oli Mittun made a considerable mark in the standings. Also, Pauli Jacobsen played the game of his national career so far, 16 saves leaving the Montenegro offense without chance until 24–37.
North Macedonia–Portugal
The only real drama saw North Macedonia and Portugal split the points. North Macedonia had some splendid stars – Filip Kuzmanovski with 15 goals and five assists plus Martin Tomovski with crucial last minute saves. Portugal still keeps second place but Francisco Costa (eleven goals) and his teammate still must have felt some loss in the tied result, 29–29.
Poland–Iceland
Iceland were three goals ahead at half time and pulled away further with 8-3 right after the break. After 23–31, the last game day in Kristianstad (Tuesday) will contain a direct duel between Iceland and Hungary for the first spot in the group and more importantly two points to bring to the main round. Omar Ingi Magnusson goes into that match in good shape, all in all Iceland seem to muster a well-composed squad onwards.
Romania–Denmark
Denmark left some room for improvement in defense, allowing 17 goals in the first half but still leading 22–17. The second half was definitely a power performance – 17–7 and a surefire advancement to the next round. Mathias Gidsel and Simon Pytlick repeatedly passed the opponent´s futile attempts towards 32–20. On the negative side Lukas Jørgensen abandoned the game in pain with a fear of a serious injury.
Switzerland–Slovenia
Switzerland and Slovenia battled it out until 35–38. The three last goals gave Slovenia the final advantage, also Miljan Vujović as the prominent keeper. For a long time it was Switzerland´s game, even a nine-goal lead (23–14) couldn’t stop Slovenia from a great comeback. Best in attack? Several players reached six goals, among them Andraz Makuc, Domen Makuc and Domen Novak in the winning team.
