Danish star returns home: “I have had a desire to come home to Denmark”

Niclas Kirkeløkke has signed a three-year deal with Fredericia. After eight years abroad, the Danish international has decided to leave the Bundesliga and return home.
– After several good conversations with the club, it quickly became clear to me that the project here is incredibly exciting, says Kirkeløkke to the club website.

With eight seasons in the Bundesliga playing for Rhein-Neckar Löwen and Flensburg, Fredericia has secured a player with great experience. The two-time world champion will bring both quality on the court and a strong winning mentality off it.

– We are getting a player who brings enormous experience and a strong winning instinct. We have lacked the experience and skills that Niclas possesses, and he will be vital in the club’s hunt for medals, says club director Thomas Renneberg-Larsen.

For Kirkeløkke, the move allows him to return to his home country after many years abroad, while at the same time joining a club with high ambitions and hopes of competing at the top of Danish handball.

– I have a desire to come home to Denmark again after many years abroad. After several good conversations with the club, it quickly became clear to me that the project here is incredibly exciting, and that I can see myself being a part of it, says Kirkeløkke.
