Melanie Felber to play at the World Championship for Switzerland: “An amazing opportunity I couldn’t say no to”

There will be no international break for Melanie Felber in the coming month – the Skara HF star will instead play for Switzerland at the World Championship.

Last year, Melanie declined to participate in the European Championship with Switzerland because her husband, Rex, was still playing for Swedish club IFK Skövde, and being away from their children for an extended period would have been too difficult. This time, however, the national team and Melanie have found a solution that allows her whole family to accompany her during the three group stage matches.

– I feel happy and grateful that we’ve been offered this complete solution, says Melanie.

The left wing has not yet participated in any training sessions or team gatherings with the Swiss national team, but she will join the squad in the week leading up to the World Championship.

Switzerland’s regular left wing, Alessia Riner, suffered a knee injury this summer. Since then, Melanie, together with national team coach Knut Ove Joa, has worked out a plan that balances the team’s needs with her family situation. During the tournament, Melanie will also support 18-year-old Era Baumann, who plays in the same position.

Switzerland will play in Group B against Hungary, Senegal, and Iran in Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. The top three teams will advance to the main round.
