Jesper Jensen no longer in charge of Denmark

Jesper Jensen leaves the Euro 2024 silver medalist Denmark at the end of the season. The local federation (DHF) announces the breaking news, on the basis of Jensen´s own request.

Only a few days ago, Jensen caught media attention when TV2 revealed ongoing talks between the national coach and CL contender Ferencvaros, Without knowing what the discussion led to, the federation guideline of not allowing double assignment might have affected Jensen in his decision-making.

– During my nearly five years as a national coach I´ve been extremely happy for the job, and I still am. But I also have to admit that I miss handball in everyday life. I miss the daily development and sparring with the players and I miss being on the floor in the arena and watching the players advance.

– That is why I have decided to step down as a national coach, Jensen says to the federation website.

Jensen became coach of Denmark in March 2020. For the first four seasons he had responsibility for Team Esbjerg, 2024/25 was the first season when he could solely focus on the red and white team.

– We are really disappointed that Jesper Jensen no longer wants to be the national coach. We had looked forward to his continued leadership, where with his full-time employment he would have the peace and quiet to further develop the team. But we also respect that after five years he needs to try something different, says DHF sports director Morten Henriksen to the federation webpage.
