CL: Metz overtook lead in group A

Metz HB, Storhamar HB and Team Esbjerg each achieved two points in the Sunday games. Among the usual match winner stars as Henny Reistad, Tyra Axnér stood out with eight goals for Metz in a narrow triumph at CSM Bucharest.

Axnér moved from another CL contender, Nykobing Falster before the season and produced a convincing effort in a true battle. While, CSM had to play without Cristina Neagu in almost the entire game, Elizabeth Omoregie and Monika Kobylinska doubled up in scoring seven distance goals.

Axnér had one up on the home team with a magnificent first half. Metz lead with five goals was caught up but Chloe Valentini and a last-second-save by Cleopatre Darleux took the French champion back to the top of group A.

In the same group, Storhamar followed up last week’s victory with another crucial win. Storhamar found itself on a solid fifth place after 25–23 against Gloria-Bistrita after Anniken Obaidli pushed the home team though the second half.

Team Esbjerg was unthreatened by HB Ludwigsburg after a superb show and eleven goals by Henny Reistad. Reistad charged on in the top scorer list, 62 goals in six games so far and her teammates left no stone unturned in controlling the match until 36–31.

– We had to compensate for a few absences. That is why we had to invest more to get this win. We are very proud and happy about this victory, said Anna Kristensen afterwards to eurohandball.com.
