There have been shaky finances and uncertainty about whether ZRK Buducnost Podgorica will play in the Champions League next season. Now the club announces that a continued investment is secured.
With its two titles in the Champions League, gold in several other European Cups and 34 championship gold on home soil since 1985, ZRK Buducnost Podgorica is a real heavyweighter in women’s handball. Over the summer, however, doubts have been reported about the club’s finances since a main sponsor abruptly dropped out.
The Swedish national team player Jenny Carlson had a contract ready with the club and would become the first blue and yellow player in Buducnost. However, the contract must have been broken during this uncertain summer period.
Now, however, the club announces via its website that they receive financial support from the city of Podgorica to continue playing in the Champions League and, above all, save the youth teams with 300 girls who play handball.
The municipal board has unanimously voted for a continuation of Buducnost at the highest level. The club thanks both the mayor, the chairman of the municipal board and a number of others for the support on its website.
There are currently no details on how this affects any player contracts or the possibility of reinforcements.
