Henrik Signell led South Korea over the Olympics in Paris. His coaching career continues with another national team. The Netherlands targets the next Olympics and have given the 48-year-old a four-year contract.
The orange national team has previously preferred Swedish coaches. Staffan Olsson still runs the men’s team and Signell takes over after Per Johansson’s assignment with a first championship coming up with Euro 2024.
After that, he can aim for a WC on his new home ground in 2025.
– The Dutch playing method is very attractive and the team consists of many top players at a high level. I see it as a great challenge that the development of the team for the coming years should continue, says Signell to handbal.nl.
The Netherlands finished fifth, both in Paris and in the last WC. The gold in the WC 2019 is the national team’s latest medal.
– Signell has broad international experience and has both the knowledge and drive to look ahead with staff and players and work together to achieve maximum performance, says the association’s technical director Jeroen Bijl to handbal.nl.
