Brazil has won all four editions of the South and Central American Women’s Handball Championship. The 2024 edition saw the usual silver suspect Argentina reach the final and a forward push from. Uruguay to clinch the bronze.
The round robin format allowed Brazil to go for it och save energy as they pleased. For example, left back ace Bruna de Paula abstained from one of the unexciting early games but returned well in time with a top performance in the gold game.
The final was logically localized in the last round but Argentina stood no chance. Brazil could even manage two red cards (Tamires Araujo and Milena Menezes) and still ran away to 33–22.
Argentina´s second spot was equally unthreatened, no other team came within seven goals of the silver medalist.
Thus, the bronze battle provided some surprise. Not only did Uruguay’s advance, mainly caused by a convincing 27-18 against Chile. The top three teams achieved tickets to the World Championship next year, and Uruguay will participate for the first time since 2011.
