Double trouble for Denmark as line duo injured

Denmark’s line player pairing Magnus Saugstrup and Simon Hald both suffered injuries in Monday’s match against Egypt and will be temporarily replaced by Lasse Andersson and Lukas Jørgensen.

Hald suffered a hamstring strain, while Saugstrup suffered an ankle injury.

Speaking to the Danish Handball Federation, coach Nikolaj Jacobsen says: “It probably looks worse for Simon, who is out for at least a week and maybe a little more. We’ll have to see how quickly he heals. We hope Saugstrup can enter the tournament again later in the group stage.”

Opportunity calling

This means that Jørgensen will be in prime position to enjoy a longer spell in the squad, but it’s an opportunity for Andersson to prove his worth and readiness as an effective two-way back court player.

They will both be involved in Wednesday’s meeting with Argentina, perhaps the best timing for the pair to work their way into form and the flow of an incredibly impressive Danish side.
