Narrow win for Poland in Euro preparation

The preparation games for Euro 2024 are on their way. Poland against Argentina equalled a exciting, though not fault-free game, where the home team had the final say, 27–26.

With less then two weeks until the anticipated tournament Poland and Argentina where almost neck to neck at the final whistle.

Having won the Pan American Games last year, Argentina focus more on the Olympic Games. Poland face some European action from January 11, with Norway, Slovenia and Faroe Islands in the group stage.

Marcin Lijewski´s team were down by a few goals in the first half. Jakub Szyszko succeeded with equaliser, 12–12 just before half-time. Poland still need to adjust some offensive patterns and reduce the amount of technical errors, but the second half was enough to reject Argentina.

Damian Przytuła and left back Ariel Pietrasik scored five times each to beat the opponent 27–26.

Poland had a four-goal-advantage with ten minutes to go, but Argentina wouldn’t give up.

– We certainly didn’t have the entire match under control. In the first half we gave our opponent eight one-on-one opportunities. Then we had to chase the result, said Lijewski in a post-game comment to TVP.

A re-match is scheduled for Friday evening.
