African Championship ready for knockout action

It´s crunch time in Cairo where 16 teams have been reduced to eight in the struggle for continental glory. Tuesday is quarterfinal day with the home nation as one of four undefeated teams so far.

Egypt seek to defend their title, plus securing double qualification (a world cup and an olympic ticket is awarded to the gold medalist). Guinea, Congo and Cameroon were fought off by 18, 15 and 19 goals respectively as the host made their way through their group stage.

Cape Verde and Tunisia and were even more decisive, ramping up over 60 in goal difference over three games. Algeria joins the quartet of group winners, as DR Congo, Guinea, Morocco and Angola try to strike back in the bracket of the knockout stage.
