The 2024 European Championship is getting closer and in a series of articles Ola Selby, reporter at GoHandball, picks his 5 best players at each position. Now we take a look at the left backs.
Here are the players:
Sander Sagosen, Norway

Is not quite back at the level he played at during his years in PSG, but Sagosen this year is the best one we have seen for some time. Is currently fourth in the scorer’s table in the Champions League and the clear number one in the assist league. Sagosen needs to be great during the Euros for Norway to succeed. Also needs to stop with the constant exaggeration when he comes into contact with opposition defenses.
Simon Pytlick, Denmark

Got injured earlier this season, an injury that caused people in Denmark to collectively hold their breath. But Pytlick has come back in a strong way after that and maybe, just maybe, the injury was good for him. Now the left back is not as fatigued as a lot of other players during this upcoming championship.
Elohim Prandi, France

Should be the first option for France on left back thanks to the huge leap he has taken over the past few years. A much more even and stable player nowadays. He can shoot, he is great at the breakthroughs and he understands handball. The back line in France of Remili, Mem, and Prandi will cause chaos during the Euros.
Mikkel Hansen, Denmark
Hansen is not what he was once upon a time. And sure, he plays centre back more often with Denmark than he plays left back. But Hansen IS a left back. And everyone knows the level he plays at in the big games.
Szymon Sicko, Poland

Which players in the world can shoot harder than Sicko? It’s hard to find anyone. Sicko has not been as great with Poland as with the national team, but something tells me this will be his best championship yet.
