Aalborg Handball has come to the end of the road with the current head coach. Maik Machulla leaves immediately and Simon Dahl resumes on duty when the Danish champion face Grindsted GIF in Sunday’s league game.
Machulla worked with Aalborg in four months and replaced Stefan Madsen who brought the club to the CL final last spring.
With a fourth place in the local league and ups and downs in Champions League so far in 2024/25 the results didn’t suffice for Machulla. Aalborg’s decision comes only a few days after the loss against Kolstad HB, but the club also points at other reasons in a press announcement.
– The decision was made on the basis of several factors. First of all, because we are not satisfied with the expression we have delivered in terms of playing, where we have not experienced the development and flow in our game that we have expected.
– In addition, we have seen signs of a lack of spark and joy in playing in the squad, just as we have generally underperformed in relation to the material we have available, says director Jan Larsen in Aalborg’s communcation.
The previous assistant coach, Simon Dahl leads the team from now on. Henrik Møllgaard becomes assistant in a combined playing and trainer position.
