Martin Schwalb in charge of Erlangen

HC Erlangen brings a new voice to the bench and reshuffles the coaching staff. Martin Schwalb obviously provides huge experience in his return to Bundesliga.

The very last position in the table after four rounds proved the last straw for the management of Erlangen. Johannes Sellin leaves the trainer position, but remains ”with the HCE in a different role as part of the coaching team”, according to the club webpage.

Schwalb has arrived to take the tradition club to a higher position within his two-year-contract. Three years after his last coaching role (Rhein-Neckar Löwen 2021) the 61-year-old is back in business. HSV Hamburg made use of Scwalb´s leadership to both domestic and international triumphs, he has also worked as vice president for the club in several stints.

– Of course, we imagined the start of the season differently. But we will stick to our line and not change anything. We are convinced of the path we have taken and I am sure that the results will soon improve and the first points will be won, said Erlangen president Carsten Bissell to Handball-Woche.

Schwalb starts his schedule with a cup match, VfL Gummersbach at home Wednesday evening.
