HC Erlangen made more than 8 000 spectators cheer, while Rhein-Neckar Löwen is fully occupied just to join the top half of the league. Just a point separate the winning team from the lions, who once again underperformed with an injury-ridden squad.
Rhein-Neckar Löwen experienced an early setback when Jannik Kohlbacher had to step off. The shoulder injury might also require personnel changes for Germany in the olympic qualification next week.
Niclas Kirkeløkke was the best bet for the guests in attacking mode. Erlangen had a better record in the technical faults column and Hampus Olsson opened up for some speedy goals when it was needed.
The game was decided in a few counterattacks, as Erlangen improved 22–20 to 25–20. With two points, Erlangen passed two teams and reached 13th position, just two behind Rhein-Neckar Löwen.
