The foot injury that occasionally kept Swedish national team star Felix Claar out of the Olympics appears to be worse than previously feared. So much so that his club has found a replacement – last year’s top scorer in the Bundesliga, Manuel Zehnder.
– We cannot currently estimate how long he (Claar) will be out, says Magdeburg’s coach, Bennet Wiegert.
Felix Claar had a strong 2023/24 season and was voted Europe’s best center back. A player who had an even better season in terms of scoring is the Swiss national player Manuel Zehnder.
– We cannot currently estimate how long he will be out, but we have to expect several months. Therefore, it’s a great stroke of luck for us to be able to sign Manuel Zehnder, says the team’s coach Bennet Wiegert on the club’s website.
Zehnder is now leaving HC Erlangen for the reigning Bundesliga champions Magdeburg, after playing on loan for ThSV Eisenach last season. According to information from the German newspaper Bild, Magdeburg has paid approximately 400,000 euros for Zehnder.
– With Manuel Zehnder, we not only get last season’s top scorer in the HBL. His playing style also fits perfectly with SC Magdeburg. Additionally, Manuel is only 24 years old and still developing, which makes this a future investment for SCM, says Wiegert.
