Fredrik Parvinen became the first goalkeeper in about 30 years to score in a men’s national team match for Finland.
Finland played matches during the holidays in the Baltic Sea tournament. There, Finland faced Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia. However, the teams proved to be tough opponents, as Finland lost each match. It’s worth mentioning that Finland participated in the tournament with a very young and inexperienced team.
But it was in the final match against Latvia that Fredrik Parvinen made history. At least according to the Finnish Handball Federation, who claim that this achievement has not occurred in 30 years. Fredrik Parvinen is the goalkeeper for the Finnish men’s national team and scored two goals in the match against Latvia, which turned out to be a rare statistical event.
Final result:
Finland–Lithuania 22–41 (9–19)
Estonia–Finland 31–28 (13–17)
Finland–Latvia 24–30 (10–19)
