The neverending rivalry and competition between Al Ahly and Zamalek had a new chapter written this Sunday. Al Ahly was crowned as the latest champions of the Egypt Supercup.
The Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Hall in Fujairah, UAE was the scene for the thrilling game between the two Egyptian powerhouses. The international touch of the Egyptian Supercup final was also strengthend by referees from Montenegro: Ivan Bavicevic and Milos Raznatovic.
Almost all through the game, Al Ahly was in the lead with one or two goals. However, Zamalek never gave up and with 30 seconds left of the game, the score was 25-24 to Al Ahly. Zamalek had a chance to equalise but a technical fault gave Omar Castilo the chance to throw 26-24 into an open Zamalek goal.
26-24 was the final score and Al Ahly champions in front of a great amount of supporters.
Al Ahly coach David Davis after the game:
– It was a strong match from both sides, which reflects the strength of the Egyptian handball. The staff and the players gave their all. We worked hard for this and we deserve the victory.
And 34-year old veteran Ibrahim El Masry, the pivot who has played for Al Ahly since 2013 said:
– We had the passion and every intention to win. We prepared hard for this game and we are very happy with the title. We would like to thank our fans for their great support as usual.
